Problem

Working as a medical assistant one common ethical dilemma I see often involves pain management which typically only happens when a provider refuses to prescribe or refill pain medications. As a future nurse, I feel that my role would be to try my hardest to back the patient up with why they feel they may need the medications while also making sure that I'm respecting what the physician already stated as to why they aren't prescribing or refilling the medications. In this type of situation I would want to make sure that I'm getting all the necessary information that I may need from the patient such as the location of the pain, the pain level and even communicating with them possible alternatives for pain relief options that isn't an opioid. I do however know that as a nurse I would be unable to prescribe medications but I can escalate the concern to a pain management specialist. I do feel that I would be able to handle the situation alone but ultimately I would need to escalate the concern to other healthcare professionals if need be. Get the instant assignment help.
