Production orientation: a philosophy that focuses on the internal capabilities of the firm rather than on the desires and needs of the marketplace. An example of this would be Burger King making hundreds of average burgers a day at a cheap price other than making the best burger ever for the customer.
Sales orientatioin: the belief that people will buy more goods and services if aggressive sales techniques are used and that high sales result in high profits. An example of this would be found in the retail industry as they pitch promotions and deals (agressive sales techniques)
Market orientation: a philosophy that assumes that a sale does not depend on an aggressive sales force but rather on a customer's decision to purchase a product. An example of this would be Amazon because instead of relying on agressive sales techniques, they acknowledge concerns made from customers.
Societal marketing orientation: the idea that an organization exists not only to satisfy customer wants and needs and to meet organizational objectives but also to preserve or enhance individuals' and society's long-term best interests. An example of this would be like an advertisement promoting not to smoke or do drugs.
Ansoff's Strategic Oppurtunity Matrix matches products with markets through the use of four options. These options are market penetration, market development, product development, and diversification. An example of this would be Subway utilizing product devlopment when they started making and selling pizza even though they are a sandwhich shop.
A marketing plan is a written document that acts as a guidebook of marketing activities for the marketing manager. Writing one would allow you to intergrate the marketing enviorment with an inside look on the workings of the business. Implementing a marketing plan would lay out activities to help employees and managers understand and work towards similar goals, would serve as a reference for success of the business, and would allow the marketing manage to be aware of possibilities and problems.
