Engineering Design Methodology Assignment

Objective:

The objective of this assignment is to select the right material for a shed to place the "transport for the future". That includes your understanding of Design Requirements:

Functions: weather protection
Constrains: ability to be molded, weather resistance (UV), adequate stiffness (>50 GPa) and strength (>90 MPa), outer maximum dimensions (2mx2mx2m)
Objectives: as light as cheap as possible and 'environmentally sustainable'

It is fundamentally important that the selection process accurately reflect the client's desires.

Assignment Instructions: Working under your consultancy group, you are required to produce a material selection report with a maximum length of 4 pages where should be included:

Charts for strength and density; and strength and embodied energy to select the material.
Position your selection line to include one metal and one plastic.
Cost analysis of potential material candidates.
Material selection discussion.
Catalogues and providers research and datasheets.
