Case Study 1: Mrs Brenda Watson

Mrs. Brenda Watson is a 77 years old female who recently has stroke and has been diagnosed with dementia. She has been recently moved to ABC nursing home. She has worked as politician in the local council. She is very extrovert lady with dominant behaviour. Mrs. Brenda does not like anybody calling her by the name of Mrs. Watson.

Mrs. Brenda is very anxious with new environment. She is verbally aggressive toward the staff. Brenda had extensive medical history. She has to take tablets for her medical condition. Mrs. Brenda is not accepting that she has dementia.

Today agency nurse came to Mrs. Brenda room and offer her to take the medication. Brenda refuse to take the medication and became quite abusive and threw glass of water when the agency nurse tried to insist that she takes the medication as prescribed.

The Nurse was very calm, but she firmly reminded Mrs. Watson you need to take the medication, and this is not appropriate behaviour. Brenda slapped the nurse on the face.

Brenda husband came to visit her, she refused to open the door. When her husband tried to talk to her. Brenda became verbally aggressive towards him.
