Assessment description
In this assessment task, you are required to participate in two role-plays.

You are required to do the following.

• Your assessor may act as the second party in each role-play or assign another learner to participate in the role-plays with you.
• Record your sessions so they may be viewed at a later time by your assessor.
Specifications
You are the human resource manager for Kingfisher Garden Centre. Familiarize yourself with the business by visiting the Kingfisher intranet:
Here you will find everything you need to know about Kingfisher's products and services, their background, values, vision and mission. As you participate in the role-plays, you may make any reasonable assumptions about the Kingfisher Garden Centre's daily operations.
Adjustment for distance-based learners
• No variation of the task is required.
• Documentation can be submitted electronically or posted in the mail.
Role play 1: Problem-solving and dispute resolution
• An employee applied for an internal promotion within the garden centre but was not awarded the role.
• The employee believes they were discriminated against because they're younger than the other applicants.
• Discuss the matter with the employee.
• Outline the dispute resolution process they can follow, ensuring processes are fair, equitable and consistent with all the awards and legislation.
• Discuss the option for external mediation, conciliation and arbitration where appropriate.
• Record your session and submit to your assessor.
Role play 2: Diversity
• You are conducting a meeting with the assistant manager. They inform you that sales are increasing rapidly, and more staff will be recruited to work in the garden centre over the next couple of months. Their manager has asked them to draft an advertisement for the local paper.
• Provide feedback to the assistant manager about his advertisement. Discuss the value of diversity and any legal issues you identify.
• Record your session and submit to your assessor.
Kingfisher Garden Centre is experiencing rapid growth.
We are seeking expressions of interest from hard-working Aussie men who love the opportunity to get their hands dirty.
If gardening is your thing, and you're young enough to maintain our grounds, we want to hear from you!
