Assume that the population are normally distributed (variance test).

Test the given claim. Use a significance level of α = 0.05, and assume that the population are normally distributed.

Claimed: The treatment population and the placebo population have difference variances.

Treatment group: n1 = 41 , x1 = 99.60, s1= 0.73
Placebo group: n2= 14, x2= 98.10, s2 = 0.57

Calculate the test statistic.

Find the upper critical value.

Choose the proper conclusion regarding the claim that the population have different variances.

a) The data do not support the claim.

b) The date supports the claim.
