XYZ Inc. Hardware Manufacturing in Sacramento

XYZ Inc. is a Sacramento, California based Hardware Manufacturing company with a 149 strong workforce. XYZ Inc. has grossed annual revenues of $19 million, $ 22 million and $ 25 million successively from 2017 till 2019. Its headcount has also progressively grown from 190 in 2017, to 203 in 2018 and 149 in 2019. During the 2019 financial year,  while 71 employees left the company, the company also hired 15 employees into its hardware design team, of which 10 of those new hires left before the year-end. Due to the pandemic, the company experienced a 35% decline in its 2020 revenues but maintained its 149 strong workforce. XYZ Inc. mainly only uses Careerbuilder.com for recruiting new hires. In 2019, through Careerbuilder.com. XYZ received 209 applications, and of these, 20 had the basic qualifications required for the job. It cost XYZ Inc. $112,500 to hire the 15 new employees in 2019.

With the fall in revenues from hardware, XYZ Inc. expects to make up for this unexpected revenue shortfall through offering software consulting services to its existing customers for their hardware equipment purchases. XYZ Inc. is therefore planning to hire 60 employees of which 10 will be exempt senior executive for forming this new software consulting services division. Software Engineers who typically fall in the same job grade as Hardware Engineers In spite of an expectation of a continued fall in revenues in 2021, XYZ Inc. projects production level to bounce back in 2022 to $22MM.

XYZ Inc. fulfills most of its training and development needs through the College of Business at Sacramento State University. Its engineering training needs of team members are mostly met inhouse by its own senior technical leaders. Training is undertaken face-to-face, on-the-job and also virtually enabled by technological methods.

XYZ Inc. has a pay structure with 7 job levels with the pay ranging from $20,000 to $30,000 in the lowest job level and the next job level pay ranging from $ 25,000 to $ $40,000. The third job level pay range is from $30,000 to $50,000. The fourth job level pay ranges from $ 35,000 to $ 65,000. The fifth job level pay ranges from $ 45,000 to $70,0000. The sixth job level pay ranges from $ 50,000 to $ 90,000 and the highest level pay ranges from $ 65,000 to $ 100,000. The staff in G&A mostly are in job grade level four but are below the equivalent fourth pay level and within pay level 3. While the hardware engineers mostly are in job grade level five, their pay is above the fifth pay level and within pay level 6 but outside its job grade. XYZ Inc.'s HR team projections for software engineers is that they will be able to attract them to join the company only if they are offered a significantly higher salary than the hardware engineers.
