A 72 - year - old woman had a vaginal infection. Her physician prescribed vaginal suppositories for the condition. His medical assistant was busy and did not completely explain how the patient should administer the medication, assuming that she knew. The patient purchased the prescription and administered the suppositories for the 10 - day period. After 3 weeks, she returned to her physician and complained that the condition was the same with no relief. Her physician asked her exactly how she was using the suppositories. The patient replied that she had been inserting the suppositories rectally every 12 hours. What mistake did this patient make in administering the suppositories.
