Melanie was caught off guard by Matt's statements to her just before she held his performance review meeting. Instead of reviewing his performance deficiencies, she gave him a "meets expectations" rating. The company fired Matt three months later. Matt has filed a complaint with both the EEOC and the Department of Labor. He claims that he was terminated from employment, not because of his performance, but because during his performance review meeting with Melanie (in which he was informed that he was receiving a "meets expectations" rating) he disclosed that he was having a hard time regulating his medications related to a mental health condition and that he would be taking paternity leave after the birth of his son. Part I: explain a performance evaluation for Matt based on Melanie's statements in the video. Part II: explain why having the performance evaluation drafted prior to the performance review meeting with Matt would have been beneficial for Melanie, Matt, and the company.
