MINI PROJECT 1 Performance of a Restaurant Server The purpose of this exercise is to explore what job performance means for a server in a restaurant. You will be conducting a job analysis for a server. Step 1: Make a list of four major job dimensions of a server. For example, one job dimension might be “taking orders”. Step 2: List two behaviors per job dimension. And the end of this step you will have eight job behaviors that summarize the tasks involved in being a restaurant server. Step 3: Take a look at your list. Which of the behaviors would be described as “citizenship behaviors”? What is the importance of citizenship behavior? If you didn’t include any, add two citizenship behaviors to your list. Step 4: Look at your list again. Which behaviors would be described as “counterproductive behaviors”? Describe the potential costs of counterproductive behavior. if you didn’t include any, add two counterproductive behaviors to your list. Step 5: How could your resulting list be used by a restaurant owner or manager to assess server performance? Would such an approach be valuable? Why or why not?
