The www.salary.com website provides pay data for numerous jobs at different companies in different industries in different cities across the US. This case challenges students to apply their understanding of key alignment concepts internal and external competitiveness to actual pay rates for specific jobs.

After reviewing the website, please answer the following questions:

  1. What jobs pay more or less? Is this what you would have expected? Why or why not? What factors could explain the differences in wages?
  2. Do jobs have different bonuses as a percentage of their base wages? What could explain these differences?
  3. How could you use this information as you negotiate your salary at your job after graduation? What data would you provide to support your "sale price"? What factors will influence whether or not you get what you ask for?
