Question

The following cases study is the presentation from a registered nurse admitting a patient to community-based hospice services. You are the ARNP involved in the patient's case. Ms. A is a 41-year-old female with a diagnosis of stage IV cervical cancer. Despite several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, the cancer has spread to her lungs, liver, and lymph nodes. During treatment, Ms. A was enrolled in the organization's palliative care program to assist with pain management. Ms. A is widowed and has a 12-year-old son. She is currently in a relationship with her significant other of 3 years whom she lives with along with her son. Ms. A is rapidly declining, getting weaker, has increasing abdominal pain, dyspnea, and suffers from anorexia due to lack of appetite. The RN rates her ECOG score as status 3, boarding on status 4 and her Karnofsky Score as 20. Ms. A wishes to remain at home until she dies, although she is concerned about her son's well-being. Ms. A relays how hard she has fought to beat her cancer diagnosis to be present for her son, but she is emotionally and physically tired and acknowledges her quality of life is poor. Weighing on
