Question

Patient presented to the hospital with rectal bleeding. She was also severely dehydrated, with a BUN of 124. On admission, the patient received IV fluids and a transfusion of platelets via her left peripheral vein because her initial hemoglobin was 9.5 and later dropped to 7.4. She had a colonoscopy which showed multiple ulcers of the rectum that were consistent with ulcerative proctitis. These were brush biopsied. The tissue was negative for neoplastic disease, and the patient was started on steroid enemas, with resolution.

Discharge Diagnoses: (1) rectal bleeding, (2) dehydration, (3) acute blood loss anemia, (4) ulcerative proctitis.
