Patient identification standards are one area of the current National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) that could see significant changes as a result of technological advancements. In order to guarantee accurate patient identification, the current NPSGs place a strong emphasis on the use of at least two patient identifiers (such as name and birth date). This is essential for avoiding mistakes when giving prescription drugs, giving blood transfusions, and administering other treatments. Technology breakthroughs may lead to a move toward more biometric identification techniques. The following are some possible adjustments: Biometric Identification: It's possible that technologies like iris, face, and fingerprint scanning will be taken for granted. By using these techniques, the possibility of misidentification can be greatly decreased, and patient record accuracy can be increased.
