Question

Charlotte Montoya is a 78yo African American female who presents with a sudden onset of watery diarrhea that began two days ago. She describes experiencing up to five episodes of diarrhea daily, with no discernible factors exacerbating or alleviating her symptoms. She states she hasn't attempted any interventions to alleviate her discomfort. Associated symptoms include abdominal pain, poor appetite, nausea, bloating, and lightheadedness. She mentions that the abdominal pain coincided with the onset of diarrhea, describing it as crampy and generalized. The abdominal pain subsides after each episode of diarrhea. She rates the severity of her abdominal pain at its peak as a 6 out of 10. The patient has been residing in a rehab center following recent hospitalization where she underwent an ORIF of the right humerus. She has also recently been treated with antibiotics for UTI 1 week prior. Patient denies vomiting, constipation, dark tarry or foul-smelling stools, bright red blood in bowel movements, and early satiety.
