As part of my graduate nurse residency when I was hired, I had to do an EBP project with my fellow new grads on my unit. At the time, our unit was having a high number of falls, and we mainly used daily orthostatic vital signs as our main determinant of putting patients on fall precautions, so we wanted to research if that was really a good method for determining likelihood of falls. Unfortunately, we didn't find much evidence in our research to either support or disprove the use of orthostatic vitals in determining falls, so I think we may have been too narrow in our topic. But before that project, I had no idea what evidence based research was, so it was a very good exercise to familiarize myself with the different levels of research and compiling it to make practice decisions.
