Question

When treating SIHD optimal results are to increase heart health, the ideal treatment is for the patient to be in an optimizing medication treatment plan which includes the use of a lipid-lowering agent, antihypertensive, and antiplatelet agents. Beta-blockers should be used when patients have a prior history of myocardial infarction or systolic heart failure. Calcium channel blockers are used to increase blood flow, yet being used is limited or contraindicated for patients with bradycardia, heart block, left ventricular dysfunction, and heart failure. The first line of treatment for SIHD focus is to prevent myocardial infarction and cardiac death, patients should be initiated on aspirin and an antiplatelet, in addition either a beta-blocker or renin-angiotensin-aldosterone inhibitor if the patient has a history of coronary artery disease, hypertension, diabetes, or left ventricular dysfunction.
