The New RN and Clinical Judgment According to statistic reported January 2019 by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), 50% of all newly licensed Registered Nurses commit a nursing error within their first year of practice. Of those errors, 65% are clinical judgment errors. Clinical judgment errors can mean failure to: Recognize cues in your patients Analyze those cues and form hypotheses correctly (which should also mean knowing what negative outcomes to anticipate) Determine best actions to take and then taking those actions in optimum time measure Follow those steps with evaluation for and recognition of outcomes, which should begin the process again Is that the type of nurse YOU want to be? What is one way you plan to implement what you have learned about clinical judgment throughout this program to help prevent you from making an error as a new graduate nurse?
