A 65-year-old man presents to the Emergency Department (ER) after being involved in a motor vehicle accident (MVA). The patient was a back seat passenger in a car and was not wearing a seatbelt. He was flung forward when the collision occurred and hit his head on the back of the driver's seat. When the vehicle came to a stop, he was then thrown backwards. The ER physician's diagnosis is traumatic brain injury, and she asks the nursing staff to perform a Glasgow Coma Scale assessment on the patient every hour.
