Question
Modifying the genetic composition of embryos could potentially lead to unexpected outcomes, impacting both the individual and the wider community. Embryonic genetic testing is an advanced technique in genomic healthcare that examines the genetic composition of embryos during in vitro fertilization (IVF) to detect possible hereditary abnormalities or characteristics (Sabbagh & Van den Veyver, 2019). This technique can minimize the transmission of inherited disorders and promote healthier offspring. However, it also poses important ethical concerns regarding selecting desired qualities, possible unintended effects, and the impact on social norms (Sabbagh & Van den Veyver, 2019). Genetic interventions focused on getting rid of inherited disorders or improving desired characteristics could unintentionally bring about new health problems or disturb the delicate equilibrium of genetic variety in the community (Monaghan et al., 2020). Unexpected adverse effects may arise, impacting both individuals and the overall ability of the population to withstand new infections. It's important to consider the possible long-term consequences carefully and evaluate the ethical aspects to prevent any unanticipated negative effects and protect the well-being of individuals and society (Monaghan et al., 2020). Embryonic genetic testing can prevent hereditary illnesses and improve human health (Zhang et al., 2021). However, it also raises ethical problems that require thoughtful study. Ensuring the proper and fair use of genetic healthcare technologies requires us to balance their advancement and preserving ethical norms.
