Background: Changes from the DSM-4 to the DSM-5 involved the inclusion of the Alternative DSM-5 Model for Personality Disorders, in addition to the unchanged criteria from DSM-4 for personality disorders in Section 2 (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). This was first offered to figure out the client's underlying personality structure (Lanier et al., 2013). The alternative model used a dimensional approach to destigmatize personality disorders, representing varieties of normal personality features rather than disordered personality traits (Lanier et al., 2013).
