Discussion
1. Identify and explain a specific healthcare disparity (ex. prevalence of disease, quality of care, access to care, etc.).
2. So, I will be using myself in this case. Back in 2016 I was hospitalized with clots in my lungs and legs. I was left in the waiting room for about an hour before a doctor noticed something wasn't right. I couldn't breathe; I couldn't walk. I basically couldn't do anything. Turns out the nurse who checked me in happened to be someone that was familiar with my ex-spouse. The nurse was written up for denying me access to care. When questioned the nurse, stated they just felt like it, that didn't sit well with the medical board who said they had to release the nurse from their work for failure to provide care for a patient.
3. Reflect on your answer from above. Describe your experience with anyone with a mental disorder or physical disability. Explain how the issue affect their personal, social, and professional challenges.
4. Because of what happened I have a bad leg; I have been labelled by the state as disabled because of the prolonged unattended care. It's changed basically everything, I can no longer do the things I use to enjoy and I can no longer use my leg like I use to. I'm on an inhaler for the rest of my life with other medicine. I use to hike, walk, climb, race, and do other outside activities. Because of that prolonged access for care, I get easily sick, COVID was harsh, I contracted that 4 times. Each time it was worse. I used to be carefree. Not so much anymore. I did learn I was told I have May-Thurner and Guillain-Barre.
