You are a member of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Implementation Team. This team is made up of many key people who come together to pick the vendor for EHR and begin the process of implementation. As part of this team, you will be reviewing and discussing software applications, as well as data collection and standards, laws, and regulations that govern the EHR.

Step 1: As part of the EHR Implementation Team, you are given the task to research 3 of the following laws, standards, or regulations that govern the EHR. You will need to discuss what they are and what their importance is for the EHR implementation. Perform research as needed, and provide APA references. The standards that you may choose from are as follows:

  • Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act
  • American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA)
  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Security Rule
  • HIPAA Privacy Rule
  • National provider identifier (NPI)
  • Protected health information (PHI)
  • Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC)
  • National Health Information Network (NHIN)
  • Certification for Health Information Technology (CCHIT)

Step 2: While you are working on the EHR Implementation Team, you are meeting other members of the team. You would like to understand their roles in the team so that you can work better with them. Choose 2 of the following health care professionals who work with health informatics. Be sure to indicate what degree is required, and if the professional earns a certification or credential. Perform research as needed, and provide APA references. The professions that you may choose from are as follows:

  • Chief information officer (CIO)
  • Health informatics and health information
  • Health information specialty areas
  • Health care manager or administrator
  • Health systems administrator

Step 3: How does an EHR impact the financial and billing side of health care management?

Additional instructions:

  • The main post should address each of the major points of the question.
  • The main post should be 2-3 paragraphs of original information in 400-600 words
  • The main post should include at least 1 reference to research sources, and all sources should be cited using APA format.
