Many different types of non blood specimens may be collected into a plain 70ml sterile container. Out in industry these containers are commonly referred to as a urine jar (because urine specimens are the most commonly collected specimens in these containers). However it is very important to understand that not all specimens collected into a 70ml urine container are urine. To ensure specimens are sent to the correct department and to ensure recollections do not occur collectors must identify, prioritise, transport and process the specimen accordingly.
