My second priority of care for Pam is management of Insomnia. As Pam struggles with sleeping patterns and duration, which must be restored to manage weight, improve mental health and quality of life. To manage insomnia for Pam creating SMART (Specific, Meaningful, Attainable, Realistic, Timetabled) goals is especially important. Insomnia is defined as decreased sleep duration, difficulty falling asleep, awakening too early, or experiencing non-restorative sleep associated with an increase in body weight and adiposity. It can affect hormonal regulation which can increase hunger, food cravings, caloric intake, and change metabolism. Management of insomnia can encourage improved sleep, weight management, and enhance overall obesity management results.
