Question

I believe Zeynep's TEDtalk was the more interesting of the two. I say this because this was done in 2016, back when people thought very little of artificial intelligence or algorithms. She mentioned the boss that did not want to know about the black box because ignorance is bliss so they say, until you can no longer ignore the issue. I think about turning over decision making to machines for hiring which I know is done today because it streamlines the process but I think it also eliminates personal interaction. While of course you cannot interview everyone that applies for most jobs in this day and age, I think taking time to personally review the qualifications of an applicant is more accurate than scanning for key words to identify the best candidate.

Conversely, I know that people with unique names, such as mine, were screened out of candidacy because the person reviewing resumes thought the name was too...something to be a viable candidate regardless of qualifications. For this reason, I can see why how AI can improve the process, but if it goes uncheck or unmonitored, the results could get out of hand pretty quickly.
