Career Lieutenant and Fire Fighter Die in a Flashover during a Live-Fire Training Evolution (Florida)
On July 30, 2002, a 32-year-old male career lieutenant (Victim No. 1) and a 20-year-old male career firefighter (Victim No. 2) died while participating in a live-fire training evolution. A flashover occurred several minutes after the fire had been lit in the vacant acquired structure while both the victims were performing a simulated search and rescue exercise. The lieutenant and the firefighter were both transported by ambulance to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead.
