My clinical skills that were learned involved performing newborn assessments and assisting with feedings, which allowed me to practice and develop my skills in measuring vital signs and evaluating reflexes in newborns. I felt a little nervous in my ability to engage with the newborns and their parents, however, reassurance and sharing observations under the supervision of my preceptors helped a lot. Interactions with the nursing staff were enlightening, as they shared their experiences and provided tips on effectively managing the delicate needs of newborns. Our patient discussions focused on parental concerns, highlighting the importance of communication and empathy in nursing care. I believe the day's experiences met my expected learning outcomes, enhancing my understanding of neonatal care, teamwork, and patient-family interaction. A new observation for me was the profound impact of skin-to-skin contact on newborn stability and parental bonding, which was both unexpected and heartwarming. Overall, today's nursery clinical was an enriching experience that deepened my appreciation for the intricate care required in a nursery unit.
