If we introduce non-native species to a community and it greatly modifies the community, do you think that is always a bad thing?
1. If the invasive species arrived on its own, rather than through human intervention, do humans have a responsibility to try to control it?
2. If the invasive species provides economic services, as the European honeybee does by pollinating U.S. crops, is it still necessarily bad to have it around?
3. If an invasive species was newly discovered in your area today and you were hired as an environmental scientist to assess its impact, how would you assess whether we should reject or welcome the invasive species? Try to be specific--some questions you may want to consider include:
Would you recommend eradicating the invasive species immediately no matter what its benefits may be? If yes, why?
Would you allow the invasive species to stay for a certain amount of time to observe it before making your recommendation? If yes, how long would you study it for?
What exactly would you study/look at to determine whether the invasive species is a threat to native species?
