Discuss one action HR can take BEFORE the interview process begins to prevent the bias described in the scenario. Context. You are at brunch with your coworker who recently moved to California with her fiance. You are both E-Commerce Marketing Analysts. You are excited to get to know Aafia outside of work, as you and she have many similarities; you both are planning weddings, and you love to travel overseas. Aafia explains some of the frustration she experienced while applying for roles before she moved to California. Aafia's comment. "I used to live in a more conservative part of middle America and was unable to find a job. I earned a degree from the University of Notre Dame and landed several in-person interviews. However, when I showed up for my in-person interviews, I could tell by how I was treated and the things said to me that it wouldn't work out. It was clear that being hijabi and foreign-looking was a deal-breaker. For example, the HR team and hiring managers seemed to be just going through the motions during my interviews. During the interview, the hiring manager didn't ask me a single question about myself. And there were no follow-up.
