I will integrate nursing theory into practice to guide my decision-making when treating patients. I can easily use middle-range theories, such as Mishel's, to help my patients navigate the uncertainties and anxieties surrounding their illness(es) by using this theory to create care plans and interventions tailored to their needs (Mishel, 1988). Nursing theory can be used in any aspect of nursing, allowing nurses to be creative and innovative. The future of nursing is innovation, and to bridge the gap between theory and practice, we must continue to use evidence-based practice, strengthen our education and preceptor programs, and promote continuing education and higher education. I say this because new graduate nurses struggle to find employment in my home state of Arizona. No one (in Arizona) wants to hire a new nurse because they lack experience, yet Arizona is projected to face the largest nursing shortage in the country this year (Shaping the Future of Nursing, n.d.). Innovation is one way we can solve this problem, and we need nurses to fuel nursing innovation.with reference
