Q - Tell me about your initial reaction to any of Nauman's works. Talk about a specific one or two.

A - My initial reaction to Nauman's art work is that it makes you think outside the box. Nauman starts out by saying "I don't generally think about large audiences. I think about whom would I like to show this to? Who would I show if they came over?" He has a very specific audience he is targeting who will think outside the box, and takes in everything that is being presented versus just focusing on one little part and missing the point. For example the mice and cat movie he was talking about. He states "You kind of have to not watch anything so you can be aware of everything." I agree with this statement because if you only focus on one thing or area, you might miss the point completely of the art. I think that he is making a statement when his head is spinning around and saying "Ok" continuously and that he is saying that he wants to be different from everyone else. That maybe he doesn't want to be like a lot of artist out there who appeal to larger audiences with pretty paintings, or great performances in the theatre, or even beautiful sculptures. That maybe art can be useful for example, the bleachers and stairs pieces he had. He talks to people's intentions for art work so maybe he intends for his pieces to be used then to just sit in a museum where people are prohibited from touching it.

Question -Provide a meaningful response to the answer above.

Criteria - Your responses need to be substantial, meaning they should contribute some further thoughts to the conversation. Responses saying only "I agree or Good Job" is empty posts and not counted towards your post total. Response must add to and advances the discussion; be thoughtful, introspective, and relevant to topic; include a personal example or application; no word limit and no page requirement.
