Question

1. In a study of lemmings marked individuals were painted with a fluorescent dye before release. Owls found the fluorescent lemmings more easily than non- fluorescent lemmings, and the marked individuals suffered a higher predation rate. How would this affect the estimation of population size- underestimation, overestimation and why?

2. In studies when food is used as bait in small mammal traps, the number of recaptured individuals increases (these individuals have figured out that there is such a thing as a free lunch) Would this behavior result in an overestimate or an underestimate of population size? Explain how this would occur.
