Problem Statement: Mechanical ventilation is a life-saving measure seen in hospitals for patient who suffers from respiratory insufficiency. The goal is to extubate as soon as patient respiratory condition improves. Prolonged use of mechanical ventilation leads to complications of myopathy , cognitive impairments, increased cost and long length of stay in the critical care unit (Gunther et al., 2021).

Research Question: In adult patients on mechanical ventilation, will the implementation of an evidenced based protocol utilizing respiratory therapy, compared to current practice, impact ventilation weaning over four weeks.
