Purpose: Synthesize and apply nursing leadership and capstoneconcepts learned in the course and program to bring about change. The project should be an actual change that could be implemented within your own facility or community(real setting, not fictitious) and relate to management concepts. The change should be written as though it will be implemented sometimewithin the next year - not a change that is currently being implemented or has already been implemented.Your topic, setting, and change theory must be approved by the course professor. The topic must be within the scope of nursing practice and be directly related to the baccalaureate nursingrole.
Choosing a Topic: As you brainstorm a topic for your capstone change project, consider the following:
1. The topic must relate to a nursing practice issue or problem; ask yourself if you can explain how the change affects nursing or patient care outcomes.
2. Spend time in the online library identifying peer-reviewed evidence-based articles that study your identified problem and/or proposed change. Chosen articles should represent the most recent research evidence on your topic. Apply your skills (from N320 EBP) to consider the strength of each study; is there enough strength of evidence to support a practice change? From here, you will design your PICO(T) question.
3. Review the current policies and procedures in place, within the selected setting, that pertain to your change idea. Is there already a policy/procedure that discusses your change? If so, this is not an appropriate topic. Try to think of similar ideas that are not addressed in that policy such as ways to improve compliance.
4. Complete the Capstone Proposal Form (find linked above or in the content area of D2L).You will need to provide enough information so the change you are wanting to make can be visualized. View this part of the request as providing evidence that the change is needed.

Your proposed change can pertain to the system or a unit within the system, a group of workers within the system, a shift within the system, etc.
• Try to describe in as much detail as you can, factors that are pertinent to your proposed change, such as
o number of employees impacted,
o size and location of the unit,
o mission/philosophy of the organization,
o organizational structure,
o health care delivery system used,
