Question

Sustaining change in healthcare is a difficult and time-consuming task due to the implementation of the next change initiative. This ever-continuous change process hinders leaders from data collection and sustaining the process. Macfarlane et al. (2013) study looked at "how neo-institutional theory (which is typically used by academics to theorize macro-level changes in institutional structures over time) can also be applied at a more meso level to inform an empirical analysis of how healthcare organizations achieve change and what helps or hinders efforts to sustain those changes (para 2)." What are your thoughts on this theory? Do you think it could be used to analyze change to help efforts in trying to sustain the changes in healthcare, why or why not?
