For a dissertation, a doctoral candidate is studying factors related to teacher burnout using the Emotional Exhaustion subscale of the MBI Educators Survey (MBIES) which ranges from 0 -36 with higher scores indicating higher levels of burnout. The candidate believes the number of students from low SES (socio-economic status) families and the number of disciplinary actions in a teacher's classroom predict teacher burnout. The doctoral candidate assesses familial SES by identifying the number of students in each participating teacher's class who meet Title 1 guidelines and counts the number of disciplinary actions reported by each teacher over the past school year.
