This thread will give you a chance to think more deeply about what you read, beginning to use some of the critical reading skills we're learning about. These questions are more specific to the text, but they still ask you to make connections, bring your own thinking to the text, and analyze what you've read. 1. Summarize the basic plot of the story. In doing so, create a character analysis of the speaker of the story. By doing so discuss the speakers actions and attitudes.
2. Identify specific details of the poem:
a. Identify the men who the speaker claim have done something to be loved? What did each do in order to be loved.
b. Identify the ways in which the speaker has apologized.
c. Identify the dumb things the speaker has done.
d. Why does the speaker choose to apologize to his wife by building a bookcase
e. What types of books will be kept in the bookcase the speaker is building? Why is this ironic?
f. What does the speaker mean when he says he has only leaned and often/wobbled?
g. Explain why the bookcase is a better gift now that it has a map of [the speakers] unfaithful blood
h. What techniques of prose poetry are used in the short story/poem?
