Assignment:
In theory, if scientists are able to identify the specific causes of aging and can significantly lengthen the lifespan of humans in the next ten years, I feel that the impacts this would have on society would overall be good. Personally, I think the notion that we as a society could potentially live longer than the average lifespan of 75-80 years would make people strive to do better with their lives as they could be in that body for much longer than previously expected.
On the other hand, if it increases the aging so significantly, to the point where we could live for centuries without aging, this could cause people to procrastinate even more in life because of the extended lifespan we have been given. I myself, could see this going either way for me, personally. There could be negative implications such as raising the retirement age, as it is 67 now, a popular and controversial topic on age-related concepts in the US currently, or certain age limits on societal activities depending on how long the lifespan is.
As a society, we are interested in increasing longevity for personal reasons, so we can live longer without having to worry about aging or cognitive decline as well. I think with the right mindset for the greater good of society, it is a worthwhile goal, but realistically, I don't think it would be an overall positive experience because of the expectations that would be put on us simply for living longer.
