Ms. Ramirez, a breastfeeding mother gave birth to a 5 lb. 11oz baby boy via c-section. She has been home for one week and called the doctor's office to express concern that her son is having trouble latching to her breast. In speaking to the doctor's office, she states, "He's not gaining weight even though and I did what my grandmother suggested and began supplementing the breastfeeding's with formula. The office staff questions her on the type and mixing of the formula. She tells them that she has been giving the baby formula from a can and adding some water just like her grandmother in Guatemala did to help him help gain weight. She begins to cry that she is a single teenage mom has no real support or money and isn't sure she's mixing the formula right. She also states that she does not have transportation to bring her son into the pediatrician's office for his scheduled well-visit.
