The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses competencies document highlights the accountabilities of baccalaureate-prepared nurses regarding quality improvement & safety. The Quality Improvement competency per QSEN (2012) is to" use data to monitor the outcomes of care processes and use improvement methods to design and test changes to continuously improve the quality and safety of healthcare systems". The QSEN(2012) competency for Safety is to "minimize risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance. "

• Review the QSEN knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) competencies for quality improvement & safety and compare them to your own practice. Reflect and respond to the following:
• QSEN KSAs: Identify one KSA regarding quality improvement & one KSA regarding safety from the QSEN competencies that you are currently using in your practice. Identify the KSA and describe how you are currently utilizing this competency in your practice.Two SMART goals: Write two SMART goals outlining either 1) how you will implement 2 currently unused competencies or 2) improve on the current competencies you identified as it relates to your practice.
• Implications to Practice: the concluding statements should be about why knowing and applying QSEN competencies are important to nursing practice(in general) and how nurse proficiency with these competencies impact patients.
