You are the nurse assigned to a 60-year-old patient who has been diagnosed with hypertension and will be starting medications. The doctor enters the room right before discharge and tells the patient, "You have hypertension and will need to take medication. Here are the prescriptions for two medications that will decrease your hypertension. You will have to take the pills once a day in the morning when you wake up. I want you to schedule a follow-up appointment and come back to have your blood pressure checked in one week. Do you understand?" The patient nods his head in agreement. Near the clinic waiting room you hear the patient talking to his wife on the phone explaining that the doctor told him that he is "hyper" and that he needs to take pills to decrease this.
