Jaimie Rand has taught with the Queen Elizabeth private school for 6 years. It is a pre-school with approximately 70 students. He signed an original contract during his first year of employment. Two years ago he successfully applied for a promotion and was appointed to the position of School Chair. He did not receive a pay increase for the position. According to the terms of his original agreement, Queen Elizabeth School was to employ Jaimie in the position of Level 1 Teacher beginning on August 23rd 2011 to June 30th 2012. In the event of a renewal of this contract, the same terms and conditions were to apply unless expressly amended. The terms and conditions of the contract read as follows:
Duties and Responsibilities Level 1 teachers are responsible for the daily care of children between the ages of 3 and 5. This includes the physical and emotional care of the children. Daily lesson preparation is necessary. Teachers must work collaboratively to arrange for field trips, report cards, parent-teacher interviews, and extra-curricular activities. Reporting Structure All Level 1 teachers report to the School Chair. Compensation Salary: Level 1 teachers are paid an annual salary of $45,000. Termination Notice Period If employment is terminated, without cause, the teacher will be provided two weeks' advanced working notice or pay in lieu of such notice. The payments and notice provided for in this paragraph are inclusive of your entitlements to notice, pay in lieu of notice and severance pay pursuant to the Employment Standards Act.
