Identify and explain an aspect of communication study that you would like to explore further. It should be a theoretical framework or general approach, not a single observation. You can pick something that we discussed or touched on in class, but you don't have to. Just be sure that it relates to communication in professional contexts, whether that be corporate documentation or interpersonal communication.

Begin by explaining the framework or concept and include some observations from your own experiences or your own independent study to illustrate it. Then explain why an understanding of the framework or concept is useful. What's the value here?

Example: A recent FINC major was interested in the structure of bad news messages in corporate documentation. Specifically, he wanted to explore whether firms frontload or buffer losses in the prepared statements given during quarterly earnings calls. He wondered whether there might be a relationship between a certain structure and the advice given by analysts.

Another example: A recent GBUS & MKTG major was interested in exploring how Starbucks's references to "customer" and "store" were expressed in other languages in its mission statements. Specifically, he suspected the translations were not direct, with some languages choosing words that emphasized a short-term, transactional relationship and other languages choosing words that emphasized a longer-term, hospitality relationship. He wondered whether this might be a counter-argument to the claim that Starbucks ignores local culture.
