Assignment:
I'd like you to think about the position you have created and identify a development plan regarding career and employee growth. Below are some guiding questions for you to consider as you create this plan:
1. How do you identify high performers within your organization who would be chosen to take part in a development opportunity - as in, additional training / succession planning for future promotional opportunities?
2. How do you communicate to them in an ethical way, as to not create any hard feelings within the work environment for those not chosen to take part in a development program?
3. What is the career plan for the position you have created? If the person who filled it is a high performer, where do you see them going in 5, 10, 15 years? How do you help them get there?
4. Within your organization, are employees responsible for their own personal growth or does the organization take more responsibility to encourage employees to take part in professional development activities? What types of professional development activities are offered to help employees gain the hard and soft skills needed to move forward in their careers?
5. How do you ensure that as you build employee skills, they remain loyal to your organization and not go elsewhere?
6. Overall, do you build your own employees up or hire employees who are already seasoned and well-versed in the industry / area? Discuss the pros and cons of both.
