Question

1. Humans are amazing organisms, but just one of many results (i.e., one of many species) from millions, if not billions of years of natural selection. Humans are able to endure extreme environments, from high altitudes and freezing temperatures, to diving deep into the water or soaring into space; some humans are extremely fast, and some live for 100 years or more. Yet, there is and have never existed one person that can do all these things. Why not? Will evolution ever produce a super human or the perfect organism? Will we ever be able to adapt to living on Mars? What is the most extreme environment you have lived in? How did you do?

2. The human body, specifically the immune system, can help us fight different kinds of microorganisms that enter our body. Did you know that 70 to 80% of your immune cells are housed in your gut? Your gut and your immune system are 100% connected. It is said that you are what you eat. The lining of your gut is covered mostly with bacteria creating a small ecosystem called the microbiome. These bacteria help support digestion, a healthy digestive function, and a healthy immune system by promoting the balance of beneficial bacteria. The key to a healthy microbiome comes through the balance of nearly 1,000 bacteria in the gut. Probiotics are one of the main players to maintain this balance and can be found in foods like yogurt and kefir. There has been a lot of controversy whether these are as effective as you think.Have you heard of probiotics? Are you aware of its benefits? If so, what have you heard? Some scientists believe that taking probiotics can actually be harmful to you. Do you believe that taking them as supplements can really do everything that they are meant to do to keep us healthy? Do you think they should be better regulated? Why or why not?
