Question

Human study. reason for encounter: abdominal pain. This 50 year old male with PMH of osteoarthritis and dyslipedimia prsents with complains of abdominal pain and dyspepsia for several weeks. He describes his pain as burning and it is improves with eating and antacids. Patient reports that several months ago he had melena and coffe-ground emesis episode, both resolved since. He drinks seven to ten beers per week and has a 30-pack-year smoking history. He takes Aspirin daily for primary cardiovascular disease prevention, Ibuprofen 200-400 mg daily for knee pain and antacid PRN. On exam this patient has stable vital signs, afebrile. He has epigastric tenderness and no signs of acute blood loss.
