Question: Overview: As a tax professional, you must not only be able to help clients with their tax issues, but also maintain an awareness of the many taxation practices that generate ethical debate. You should be able to take an informed position on such issues and provide input on potential solutions to these issues so that, given the opportunity, you can collaborate with others to advocate for changes that will benefit the profession, clients, and society.

Prompt: Choose and research a current ethics issue that is being debated in the field of taxation. Then, write a short paper that provides a brief overview of the issue, explains and supports your position on the ethics of the practice, and provides a solution to the ethical issue consistent with your viewpoint. For example, if you take the position that a practice is ethical, detail how you would go about addressing and responding to concerns of those opposed to the practice. If you believe a practice is unethical, present an approach that would reduce or eliminate the practice.

Your paper must address all of the following elements:

1. Provide a concise introduction to the issue, including an explanation of the origin of the issue, its benefits and drawbacks as a result of the current practice, and why it is important to address the issue.

2. Articulate your position using material from scholarly resources, case law, and credible news and industry publications to support your position, offer rebuttal to opposing viewpoints, and present an argument that is clear, cohesive, logical, and appropriate.

3. Offer a solution to the issue using material from research to support a clear, specific, logical, and appropriate course of action.

4. Provide a logical conclusion that is supported by the information presented.
