Auditing and Assurance
Assessment - Class Participation and Simulation
Task
Participation
You are required to actively engage and participate in class. Accounting graduates are required to clearly communicate complex accounting standards, defend budgetary decisions in public forums, and effectively present the findings of your analyses to stakeholders who may not have a background in the technical aspects of accounting. This assessment reflects the evolving role of accountants, focusing on communication and analytical skills over manual tasks.
Simulation:
You are also required to participate in a job simulation that replicates real-world scenarios encountered in accounting firms. You will learn your way around financial statements and what it takes to plan, prepare and sign off a company audit with one of the world's leading organisations of independent assurance, tax and advisory firms. This component sharpens your practical skills and decision-making abilities as you tackle typical industry challenges, interact with simulated clients, and apply theoretical knowledge to practical real- world situations.
Assessment Description
Participation: Active participation in this subject is determined via oral expression in the class of each associated week's learning outcomes. This will incorporate all of the following elements throughout the trimester:
mini presentations with a duration of approximately two minutes,
spontaneous questions asked of every student by their teachers, and
activities that necessitate discussion and debate within teams
Simulation: By Monday of Week 3, you will receive an announcement containing a link and instructions on how to sign up for the job simulation assessment. The simulation is self-paced and takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete, and you have from Week 3 to Week 12 to finish the assessment. In this task, you will learn how to conduct an audit and why it is so important to keep organisations honest. It is also a great opportunity for you to get a sense of what it's like to work in an accounting firm and no doubt, you will develop some new skills.
