The Research Question

This inquiry focuses on understanding how therapists evolve into trauma-informed practitioners and what qualities define them. It explores internal and external factors that shape this professional identity, such as training opportunities, reflective supervision, personal introspection, and theoretical orientations. What processes and qualities do therapists experience as they become trauma-informed within a group practice setting?

Research Purpose

This qualitative inquiry aims to understand how therapists in a group practice setting become trauma-informed and identify the defining qualities that characterize trauma-informed practitioners. While trauma-informed care is widely regarded as an essential dimension of adequate mental health treatment, the pathways and attributes that guide therapists toward truly trauma-informed practice remain underexplored. By examining these developmental processes and practitioner qualities, this study aims to contribute to the literature on enhancing therapeutic interventions, ultimately improving mental health services' overall quality and responsiveness (Ravitch & Carl, 2021).
